Challenge Yourself and See Where it Takes You

So, it all started with these....

I saw these - they were cute and cheap so I had to have them. That was 2 years ago and they still looked cute even though they had a layer of dust over the packaging.

You’ve all been there - I know you have. We can’t stop ourselves from buying something so cute and then not doing anything with it for ages.

Well it was time for me to challenge myself and use these pretty wood veneer flowers.

My idea was to use the flowers as a base for a shaker card - these seem to be quite popular at the moment.

After a good amount of humming and hoeing, too-ing and fro-ing, I came up with this card.

WHAT WOULD I CHANGE? I was pretty happy with it but I really wanted more room for the shaker goodies.

I decided to do it again and this time pop the front base mat piece up on some craft foam, cut a hole to put in the shaker pieces and put the flower on the top.

WHAT WOULD I CHANGE? The colour choice - what was I thinking - and the size of the top piece of card that has the greeting on it. However, I really like the way the shaker section worked out so let’s try again.

I videoed the making of this card and you can see it here on YouTube.

WHAT WOULD I CHANGE? Definitely the way that I cut the acetate to go on top of the flower - although you cannot see the messy cutting job unless you look closely, I’m still not happy with the finish. (I’m a little bit of a perfectionist)

I liked the design and techniques used so decided to include this in one of our classes - here are some of the pieces that were made.

(sorry that this photo is a little fuzzy)

I couldn't stop with just these so here are a couple of other cards I made using the wood veneer flowers.

I will post another blog just about this card showing how I coloured the flowers and made the pot that they are coming out of - so keep an eye out for that.

On this card I kept the wood veneer flowers in their natural state. I just love the colours in these two cards - they are very earthy.

I hope you have a happy crafting day and I'll catch you next time.

Cheers,

Donna
