Faux Embossing

Sometimes I really want a specific embossed look but I don't have an embossing folder to suit. This is one of many ways that you can get that look.

Birthday Card

I kept this card fairly simple - as you can see, I used mainly black and white with just a splash of the blue to really highlight the 10th birthday theme.

You can see that the background on both white pieces have an embossed look - this was done by die cutting out the numbers and the words in white and gluing them on white card.

This photos shows how I have inlaid the the 'Happy Birthday' in the bottom piece - I did this by using my 'Happy Birthday' die from Spellbinders and my Cuttlebug to cut out one from blue card stock and then one from the white card stock that I wanted on the front of my card. I then simply removed the white 'Happy Birthday' (keeping all of the little pieces from the letters eg: the center of the 'a') and replaced it with the blue 'Happy Birthday' and put all of the small white pieces in where required. It was like putting a jigsaw together.

I gave the number 10 on the upper piece of the card dimension by cutting out and additional 3 number 10's from white card stock scraps and gluing them on top of one another and finally adding the blue one on top.

Craft foam was used to pop up the piece with the numbers on it - I used double sided tape to adhere it. I use craft foam in cases like this to ensure that the card stays nice when sending through the post.

I kept the lower piece with 'Happy Birthday' on it flat to add a different dimension to the card. Both pieces are attached to a piece of black card stock measuring 10.2cm x 14.7cm which I then used double sided tape to attach to my card base which measures 10.5cm x 15cm when folded.

Have a happy crafting day and I will catch you next time.

Cheers,

Donna.
